Wood Slice Ornaments

Today was a productive day of tinkering. The goal today was to make some ornaments for friends while gaining some experience with the laser engraver. I was a great success!

How it’s made

I ordered wood slices off Amazon and at first did not think to look at the size. Unfortunately, the first batch I ordered was a 5 – 5.5-inch, which was a little big for ornaments. I then put in an order for some smaller 3.5 – 4 inch slices. I also ordered some 2 mm jute rope.

I set up the lazer engraver, and with the help of my wifey’s Canva skills, I soon had the images ready for engraving. I made sure to adjust the height of the lazer for each slice as they are slightly inconsistent in thickness.

After etching both sides and stopping for a quick photo, I went to the garage and tested some drill bits on scrap wood to find the perfect size for the jute rope to loop through. After that, I drilled all the ornaments and cut and tied the jute rope to finish off the ornaments.

What’s Next

With presents wrapped up, I’m going to focus on products to launch the Etsy shop. I also ordered some keychains to tinker with as a future shop item. My expected first products will be incense holders, key hooks, and maybe some signs. However, if inspiration strikes, more items could be added to that list.

Until next time
